Are you a minor (under the age of 18) and/or have a drug / alcohol related offense?   If so, you’re likely aware of the wide range of consequences that can occur.  One of those likely consequences is that you are required by the court as part of your punishment to take a Drug or Alcohol Awareness Program. Besides it being accepted by many insurance companies for an auto insurance discount or it’s general safety training benefits, the Texas Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program (DADAP) is an acceptable option by law for any minor in Texas that is required under Section 106.115 of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, to complete an Alcohol Awareness Program.  Does this mean that your court or judge will accept the online DADAP course?  Not necessarily.  While the majority of courts do accept the online DADAP course to meet their requirements, it is still important to check with the court just to be sure.  Most courts will provide a list of acceptable courses or companies to use.

What DADAP Offers

The DADAP course promotes drug and alcohol driving awareness. The course covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Signs of drug and alcohol abuse
  • The risks of alcohol and drug abuse
  • Effects of alcohol and drugs (while driving or otherwise)
  • Physiological and psychological effects of alcohol and drugs

While the course was originally focused on helping minors who have been charged with drug- and alcohol-related offenses, such as minor in possession, consumption, purchase, and attempt to purchase, the DADAP course is applicable and can be taken by people of all ages.

What to Expect

Per state laws in Texas, online DADAP courses are six hours, however, with Ticket School you can log in and out as needed because the course will automatically save your progress. Each page you read has a time requirement that you must spend reviewing the course information. This ensures that students are spending time reading the information versus clicking through the course to finish it quickly. There are also quizzes and a final exam to test the retention of the course information.

The course must be completed within 180 days of registering for it. Once completed, you will receive a state-approved certificate of completion that should be given to the court before any applicable deadlines.
