How does the course work?
The course has 6 units and the total instruction time is 270 minutes (4.5 hours). At the end of each unit, you will be required to pass a short multiple-choice quiz. You must get at least a 70% score to pass a unit quiz. You will be given 3 attempts to achieve a passing score and move on with the course. If you fail, re-registration is free. You will also be required to validate your identity throughout the course. Our course uses identity validation questions that are asked at each login and via a phone call in system throughout the course. If you fail three consecutive ID validation questions you will be disqualified from the course. Your completion is automatically sent to the New York DMV. There is no completion certificate. Once your completion is successfully reported, you can schedule your behind the wheel road driving test*. The course must be completed within 30 days from the date the person completes registration.
*It can take 24 to 48 hours for a completion to show up on your record in the New York DMV system.

What this course isn't.
The New York 5-Hour Online Pre-Licensing Course provides important knowledge that is needed as a new driver to operate a vehicle safely and is required before you can schedule your behind the wheel road test. The goal for the course is to help give you the tools you need to be a safer driver while behind the wheel. It is not designed to help you pass the behind the wheel road test. Only practice will do that.
- You must be at least 18 years old, and
- You must hold a valid New York State Learner Permit.
The largest benefit to the online course is that it is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You do not have to be online on any particular day or time. Whenever you are ready, you can register to create your account and then begin the course. You are not required to do the course in one sitting. You can log in and out of the course as needed from any internet enabled device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC, etc.) and it will automatically save your course progress.
As long as you meet the eligibility requirements mentioned above, then all you need is your New York Learner permit to register. You will need your permit because you are required to enter you’re the Learner Permit ID number, the Learner Permit Document number, the Permit Class and the Permit Expiration date to create your account successfully.
The payment process is included in the registration process and will accept any debit or credit card.

Identity Validation: As required by the New York DMV you must successfully identify yourself throughout the course. Our course does this with identity validation questions that are asked each time you login to the course and via a phone call in system during the course. During the registration process you will be required to answer 10 identity validation questions (Example: How many brothers do you have?). Our system will then require you to answer one of those questions at each course login and at 7 points during the course via the phone call in system. If you are unsuccessful validating your identity after 2 attempts your account will be temporarily suspended until you call customer support to answer your third ID question. If you fail the third ID question your account will be disqualified and you will have to start a new course from the beginning. Should this occur, your new course will be free.

Course Completion Reporting: One of the benefits of taking our course online is that your completion is automatically reported to the New York DMV system after you successfully pass so that you can take your behind the wheel driving test. There is no paper completion certificate to keep track of. Your course completion is good for one year. IMPORTANT: It can take 24-48 hours for your completion to show up on your driving record.
