Course Details for Ticket School’s TLSAE Course

Ticketschool.com is not just about courses after you get a ticket. We also offer courses to help you get a license and hopefully avoid getting a ticket. The Florida Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course, also commonly referred to simply as the Florida Drug and Alcohol course, is one example. Completing a TLSAE course is currently a requirement for anyone over the age of 14, who has never held a driver’s license and is trying to get their learner’s permit or first driver’s license in Florida.  IMPORTANTEffective August 1st, 2025, the TLSAE course requirement will be replaced with a new 6-hour Florida Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course requirement for those age 14 to 17.  If you are under 18 then you must complete a TLSAE course no later than July 31st, 2025 in order for it to be accepted by the Florida DHSMV to get your permit.  Those age 18 and over will continue to be required to successfully complete a TLSAE course prior to obtaining a learner’s permit or their first driver’s license.

The TLSAE course is designed to help first-time drivers learn about the dangers of alcohol and drug use as they relate to operating a motor vehicle. The course is also packed with safe driving strategies.

TLSAE Completion Reporting to DHSMV

After passing, your course completion will be immediately reported to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) and it should already be on your record in the State database when you go to apply for your driver license.   You will also receive a downloadable certificate in PDF format that you can save and/or print as needed.  We still recommend that you bring a copy of your certificate with you to your appointment in case personnel has trouble finding a record of TLSAE completion in their system.  You won’t need to do anything else once you successfully complete the TLSAE course.
