How does the course work?

  1. Register: You can sign up and pay in minutes and gain instant course access. In the registration process you will choose your reason for taking the course (ticket dismissal, insurance discount, or business / safety training).  If you choose ticket dismissal, you will be required to select the county and court that you will be turning in your certificate to. We will provide you with a login code that you will use to log in and out of your course as needed, and then you will be sent through payment, which accepts any major debit / credit card.
  2. Complete the Course: The course is 6 hours and consists of six units, which contain text, videos and animations. You DO NOT have to be online on any particular day or time.  The course is available anytime (24/7), from anywhere you have internet access and from any internet enabled device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.).  You can log in and out as your schedule allows and we will save your progress.
  3. Pass the Unit Quizzes: You will be required to pass a short multiple-choice quiz at the end of each unit to complete the course. Don’t stress!  You get three tries to pass each unit quiz and have the option to go back and review the unit material after each attempt if needed.
  4. Completion Certificate: Your course completion certificate will be processed and sent via email in PDF format after you pass the course. We process and email certificates at 10AM, 1PM, and 4PM CST each business day.  Completions on weekends or after 4PM on a weekday will be emailed out the following business day.
  5. Completion Reporting: If you are taking the course for a ticket, we DO NOT electronically report your completion to the court.  It is your responsibility to follow the court’s instructions to get your certificate to them before your deadline.  We do report your completion to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, but that is just in case the court wants to check the validity of the certificate that you turn in to them.

Yes! Our online Texas defensive driving course (a.k.a. Texas driver safety course) is licensed and approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for drivers wanting to keep a ticket off their records, get a discount on their auto insurance, and/or just become a safer, more skilled driver. This is extremely important since courts and insurance companies will only accept the certificate if it comes from a state-approved course provider.

Our Texas defensive driving online course offers unmatched flexibility and convenience when compared to the other delivery formats.

Gone are the days of trying to find a school and fit six straight hours into your weekend. Our course is accessible 24 hours a day / 7 days a week from any internet-enabled device (smartphone, tablet, PC, or laptop) and from anywhere you have internet access (ex. home, office, coffee shop, etc.). The course gives you the flexibility to log in and out as much or as little as your schedule requires. Our site will save your progress.

Length: 6 hours
Course Units:  6

As a state-approved course, it must follow specific regulations set by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which include:

Content Verification:
Instead of a final exam, we test your retention of the course material with end of unit quizzes.  At the end of each unit, you will be required to pass a short seven question multiple-choice quiz. You must score at least 70% to pass (at least five correct) and proceed. The state rules allow a maximum of three attempts to pass each unit quiz.  You will get new questions on each attempt.

Identity Verification: The state requires that we verify that the correct person is taking the course.  Our site does this by asking ID questions at ten random locations in the course.  The questions come from the information on your driver’s license or vehicle registration.  For example:  What is the zip code shown in the address on your driver’s license?  You must answer at least 70% of the ID questions correctly to continue with the course.

Electronic Completion Certificate (PDF): After you successfully complete the course, we will send your certificate of completion in PDF format via email.  Our system requires that your certificate be processed first, so the certificate emails are sent out at 10AM, 1PM, and 4PM Central Time on each business day (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays).  If you finish after 4PM on a weekday or on a weekend, your certificate will be emailed to you at 10AM on the next business day.

Certified 3A Texas Driving Record: Most courts require that you turn in a certified copy of your Texas driving record at the same time you turn in your course completion certificate to get your ticket dismissed.  The reason this can be required is that the court wants to make sure you haven’t taken defensive driving or a driver safety course for another ticket in the past twelve months.

State Reporting: IMPORTANT:  We DO NOT report your course completion electronically to the court or your insurance company.  However, we do report the completion to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as required, so that the court can verify the validity of your completion certificate.

State Approved – Our company and our Texas driver safety course are proudly licensed and approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to be taken for ticket dismissal, insurance discount, and business / safety training in Texas.  Rest easy knowing that you are choosing a state approved course and that there is no risk that your completion certificate will not be accepted by the court, your insurance company, or your employer.

Trusted History – Our company has been offering driver safety and defensive driving courses as a family owned and operated business to drivers across the US and Texas for over 45 years.

Local – We are proud to be headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas since 1977.

Superior Service – We are fanatical about our customer service.  In a world that has made it nearly impossible to get a live person in a timely manner to help, we have live US-based reps ready to help before, during or after your course taking experience with us.  Our support staff is available 9AM to 5PM CST Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Contact us at (800) 558-9887.

Updated and Engaging Content:  The course material uses proprietary scenarios and information that help make it research proven effective at improving your driving skills and lowering the probability of getting future tickets or having a crash.  We produce our own video content, so it is up to date and of high quality.

We use a secure payment portal inside the course registration so that you can safely and securely submit your course payment and quickly gain access to the course. You can use any major credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express). We DO NOT save or store any payment information for your security and the process is fully encrypted.

If you get a traffic ticket in Texas, the first thing you should do is read the information provided by the officer who wrote the ticket and contact the court that will be handling your citation to determine your options for handling it. While it depends on your record and what the ticket was for, in most cases you should have the option to complete a state-approved Texas driver safety course (a.k.a Texas defensive driving course) online to have the ticket dismissed and keep it off your record.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT take the course before notifying and getting permission from the court first. If you are eligible, the court will grant you permission to take the course, collect a court fee, and typically give you 90 days to turn in the course completion certificate. The amount of the court fee varies, but it is typically less than the cost of just paying the fine amount for the ticket and letting it go on your record.

Once you complete the course, it is very important to follow your court’s instructions for submitting your completion certificate. You must sign your certificate before turning it in and determine if your court requires a certified copy of your 3A Texas driving record as well. If your driving record is required, our site can order it for you by selecting that upgrade service at registration or calling our support team. Once your documents are turned in to the court, assuming it is before the deadline and that you have met any other requirements, the ticket will be dismissed and they will not report it to the Texas DPS.

Some insurance companies give discounts for completing a TDLR-approved driver safety course (a.k.a. defensive driving course). The amount and length can vary, but it is typically at least 10% for three years. Make sure you consult your insurance company to determine their participation details prior to registration.

We are so confident in our product and service that we offer a full 30-day money back guarantee. If you aren’t happy, then we aren’t happy. Please note: If you successfully complete the course and are issued a certificate of completion or are disqualified from the course for failed identity verification questions or unit quizzes, you will be ineligible for a refund.
