You might think you are a safe driver, but your driving record has resulted in you racking up tickets and points in a short period of time. As a result, you are facing a license suspension or revocation. You may have also been labeled an “HTO” (Habitual Traffic Offender) because of excessive traffic violations.

In some cases, a traffic court magistrate or judge could order you to complete an advanced driver class, also referred to as an advanced driver improvement (ADI) course. You may also need to complete an ADI prior to qualifying for a hardship license. An ADI may even be required to satisfy the “3 Crashes in 3 Years” driver’s education state requirement before your license is reinstated.

No matter why your license is already suspended or revoked, the primary way to earn your driving privileges back is by completing an ADI course. In certain situations, completing the course could prevent your license from being suspended or revoked.

In Florida, driver license suspensions could range from as little as a 30-day period to as long as five years! Not being able to drive to work or to school could have a serious impact on your ability to earn an income or complete your education. Fortunately, the state of Florida does offer a hardship license option.

This option does have its own specific requirements, but it does provide driving privileges to drive to and from work and school. For those drivers classified as HTOs, you may be required to wait one year from the original suspension before you can qualify for a hardship license. For most other driving offenses with a suspension, you may qualify for the hardship license right away.

However, before the state will grant you a hardship license, you must enroll in an ADI and show proof of enrollment. TicketSchool.com offers a free downloadable enrollment letter that you can save and print out to show it to the court magistrate or judge right away.

In certain jurisdictions, enrolling will provide you a hardship license right away, while you continue to complete the ADI course. Upon completion of the course, you may or may not be required to provide proof.

You do not have to provide proof of completion if you already have a suspended or revoked license, are an HTO, or were instructed by the court to take a “3 Crashes in 3 Years” course. TicketSchool will notify the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) on your behalf.

However, if you took the ADI course because it was court ordered or offered as an alternative to a suspension, then you will need to supply the court with proof of completion by the deadline date. The method of submitting proof can vary, and it is your responsibility to check with the court to find out how to submit your completion certificate.
