How Online Courses Help Keep Florida

Driving in any state and on any road potentially poses a hazard to you and those around you. This is why driver safety is such an important topic, and it’s why online courses have become such a critical component in securing the wellbeing of everyone on the road. In Florida, Ticket School offers an array of state-approved courses that are designed to educate drivers, promote awareness about dangers, teach important safety habits, and help Florida drivers meet their legal requirements. Let’s take a look at how these courses work and how they pave the way for keeping Florida’s roads safer for everyone.

The Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) Course

The Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education course (a.k.a drug and alcohol course) is required by Florida statute for first time drivers who have never held a license in the State of Florida State or any other state previously. It is a drug and alcohol awareness course that educates about the serious impairment caused by drugs and alcohol and why it is never acceptable to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence. Considering that alcohol- and drug-related crashes are among the most deadly, yet also the most preventable, the TLSAE course and the education and awareness it provides goes a very long way toward making Florida’s roads safer.

The Florida Learner’s Permit Test

The online Florida Learner’s Permit Test is a 50-question multiple choice test that meets the State of Florida requirement to get a learner’s or driver’s license. It is accessible anywhere with access to the internet, and saves you from having to take the test at a Driver License office. People who are between the ages of 15 and 18 are eligible to take the test. They will need to provide their full legal name, date of birth, and valid social security number or other acceptable form of identification during registration. To prepare, drivers should study the road signs and road rules covered in the official Florida Driver Handbook.

The Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) Course

The Florida Basic Driver Improvement course, when taken voluntarily, can prevent your automobile insurance rate from increasing if you weren’t at fault in a collision. This course offers basic awareness training for drivers and usually works as a way to decrease monthly insurance payments. The Florida BDI course can also be used by eligible drivers to keep points off their records. Florida drivers are eligible to take the BDI course once every 12 months, up to 5 times in their lifetimes to keep a ticket off their record. Drivers who hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are not eligible to take a BDI course.

In addition to the insurance discounts and legal benefits offered by the Florida BDI course, those who take the course will learn a great deal about driving safety and the principles of defensive driving. This will allow them to then apply that knowledge to their regular driving on the road, increasing their chances of performing safe maneuvers and avoiding dangerous situations and crashes. Ticket School’s BDI program is available online and takes four hours to complete.

The Florida Intermediate Driver Improvement (IDI) Course

The Florida Intermediate Driver Improvement (IDI) course also helps drivers in avoiding license points and in satisfying court orders. This course is an eight-hour program which has more in-depth work and discussions than the BDI course discussed above. This course may be taken if the driver has already completed the BDI course in the last 12 months or if the course is court ordered. The information and scenarios discussed in the IDI course are designed to be easily understandable for drivers and applicable to their daily situations on the road.

The Florida Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) Course

The Advanced Driver Improvement course is a 12-hour program that allows drivers to meet a court order or a state requirement after being designated as a Habitual Traffic Offender (HTO). It can also be used to reinstate a driver license after a suspension or to obtain a hardship license. This course is particularly critical to driver safety awareness because it contains many techniques and tips that drivers can use to prevent further traffic offenses and to correct dangerous driving behavior.
