Does the course have to be completed in one sitting?

How long is the course?

Per Virginia DMV requirements, the course requires a minimum of eight hours to complete. Page timers are used to ensure that each student spends the required amount of time in the course. Please note that some students digest information more quickly than others, so we appreciate your patience if you reach the end of a page before the timer has expired.

You can log in and out as many times as you need, and we keep track of your progress so you never lose any of your work. You must complete the course within 180 days from your date of registration. After 180 days, your course access will be suspended.

Is there a final exam, and if so, what score that is required to pass?

Before you can complete the course you are required to pass a final exam by achieving at least an 80% on the 50-question final exam. (You are not allowed to miss more than ten questions.) The Virginia DMV no longer requires in-person final exam testing at third party locations.  The final exam will be available within the course immediately after the completion of the last unit in the course (Unit 8).  You will receive unlimited attempts to receive a passing score.

How is the course completion certificate sent to me?

An electronic certificate of completion (PDF format) will be processed and made available to you upon your successful completion of the course.  The certificate file can then be downloaded, saved, and/or printed as needed.  It is your responsibility to turn in your certificate the appropriate person (court, insurance agent, etc.).  We also report all completions electronically to the Virginia DMV.  This is done on the business day following the date of completion.

Are there any additional fees?

No.  There are no hidden or additional fees that are required to complete our course.

I’m not sure of the reason I need to take the course.

You may choose one of five reasons for taking the course. 1. Court  2. DMV Ordered 3. Safe Driver Points 4. Insurance Discount 5. Fleet traning / other. The vast majority of customers take the course to satisfy a requirement of a Virginia court or the DMV after receiving a traffic ticket. NOTE: If you choose Court or DMV Ordered as your reason for taking the course no safe driver points will be assigned to your driver record. In the rare case that the court is allowing safe driver points to still be assigned to your record, you must send us an authorization documentation from the court prior to your completion being reported to the DMV. The DMV ordered reason is for users that received notification from the Virginia DMV that they must take the course.  Choose Safe Driver Points as your reason if you are voluntarily taking the course to get the safe driver point benefit on your Virginia driving record. IMPORTANT: If you are under 18 you are not eligible to get safe driver points.  Insurance Discount is the reason you should choose if you are taking the course for the insurance discount on your auto policy.  If you take the course for Insurance Discount you will not receive safe driver points. Lastly the Fleet training is for users that are required by their employer to take the course as a safety measure.  Please read the description for each reason code on the first page of the course registration if you are not sure which reason to choose, or contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Do you report my completion to the court / DMV?

We DO report all student completions electronically to the Virginia DMV on the business day following your course completion. We DO NOT report completions to the court. You will receive an electronic (PDF) course completion certificate for download and printing upon successful completion of the course.  It is your responsibility to turn in your certificate of completion to the court or other proper authority. We also recommend that you save the file of your certificate for your records.

When will I get my certificate of completion?

Your certificate of completion will be processed and made available to you after you pass the course final exam.  The file can then be downloaded, saved, and printed as needed.

Do I have to attend this course in the county where my ticket was issued?

No. There are no restrictions on where you can take the online course.

Is this course DMV / court approved?

Yes. This 8-hour online Virginia driver improvement clinic is fully approved by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and is accepted by all Virginia courts.

I lost my login code. How can I get it back?

If you lose your login code, go to the course login page. You will see a box that says “I forgot my login.” Enter the email address associated with your lost login code and click the “Submit” button. The login code will be sent to you. If you are unable to retrieve your login code, please call customer support for assistance.

Why do I have to answer security questions?

During registration, you will be required to answer a number of security questions (e.g. “Have you ever been to Europe?”). You will be asked the same questions again at random points in the course, and you will be required to respond correctly within a certain time. These questions are required by the Virginia DMV to verify that the person taking the course is the same person who signed up for the course. If you miss three security questions, you will be disqualified from the course and prompted to contact us for further instructions.

Is the course completely online?

Yes, the entire course and the final exam are 100% online.

Why should I take this course online?

The main advantage of taking your course online instead of in a classroom is that you won’t have to sit in a class for eight hours straight. You won’t have to schedule a day off from work or spend all day Saturday in a driver improvement clinic since the online course can be taken from any location with an internet connection at any time of day.

How can I take the course if I don’t live in Virginia?

The Ticketschool online Virginia course is accessible 24 hours by 7 days a week from anywhere with internet access. Whether you are a Virginia resident or not the entire course is available online (including the final exam). So regardless of where you may be located the course can be successfully completed online.
