How long is the Texas Adult Driver Education course?

All Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation approved Adult Driver Education Courses must be six (6) hours in length.  The beauty of taking the course online is that you can register and access the course any time (24 hours X 7 days a week).  You can log in and out as you need to.

Who is eligible to take a Texas Adult Driver Education course online?

Course Eligibility requirements:

  • You are 18 to 24 years old the course is required.  If you are 25 or older the course is not required but still highly recommended.
  • You are applying for Texas driver’s license for the first time and do not already hold a license from another state or country.

How much does the course cost?

Our Texas Adult Driver Education course is $29.95.  No hidden or extra fees!

Does the course count as my DPS written test (road signs / road rules)?

Yes!  Completing our Texas Adult Driver Education course also counts as the written test covering road signs and road rules that is part of the requirements by the Texas Department of Public Safety to get your license.

Can I log in and out or do I have to take it in one sitting?

You have access to the course 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.  You can log in and complete all or a portion of the course and the system will save your progress.  You do not have to be in the course on any particular day or time.  It is ready and available as your schedule allows from any internet enabled device.

Is there a final exam?

Yes. As required by state rule, you are required to pass a final exam that consists of 30 multiple choice questions.  You must score a 70% or greater to pass the exam.  You will receive up to three attempts to achieve a passing score.  If you fail three attempts, you will be required to complete the course again from the beginning.

Is my completion reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)?

No. We DO NOT report your completion to the Texas DPS.  After you successfully pass the course, you will receive an electronic completion certificate in pdf format that you will need to print and bring to your driving test.

I am moving to Texas and have an out of state driver’s license; do I have to take the Adult Driver Education course prior to obtaining my Texas driver’s license?

New residents of Texas can legally drive with a valid (non-expired) license from another U.S. state, U.S. Territory, Canadian province, or qualifying country for 90 days.  Within 90 days, you are required to apply for a Texas driver’s license in person at a driver license office, where you will be required to surrender your out of state license.  If you have a valid driver’s license or a license that is less than 2 years expired from another state, U.S. territory, or Canada then you are NOT required to complete the knowledge or skills tests to obtain your license.  There are also reciprocities with certain countries that also allow you to obtain a Texas license without having to take any tests.
