Is this exam state approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)?

Yes. Our company (Driver Training Associates, Inc. d.b.a. is approved by the Florida DHSMV as a third-party administrator of the Florida online learner’s permit exam (a.k.a. Class E Knowledge Exam). The exam may also be referred to as the following:  “driver license test”, “road signs and road rules test”, “learner’s license test”.

What are the eligibility requirements for the online Florida Class E Knowledge Exam?

To be eligible to take the Florida Class E Knowledge Exam online, you must be at least 14.5 and under 18 years old according to the Florida DHSMV. You will also need to provide one of the following methods of identification to register: last 5 of a valid social security number, a valid Florida ID card number, Admissions number, or Alien number.  During the registration process, our site will use the data you provide to check your eligibility with the Florida DHSMV system.  Their system will respond that you are ineligible if you have already attempted the online exam three times.

What are the available languages for the exam?

Before starting the exam, you will be given the opportunity to choose your preferred language. The currently available options are English, Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Russian, Chinese-Mandarin, Arabic, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and French.

Can my information be changed after registering?

Yes.  If you make a mistake in your registration data (name, dob, ID number, etc.) please contact our support team at 1-800-558-9887 between 10AM and 6PM EST Monday through Friday, excluding holidays to request any changes.  Our team will determine what steps are required based on where you are in the registration or test taking process.  If you have already completed the exam, we will be required to reach out to the Florida DHSMV to request any corrections, which can take up to 1-2 business days.

Is there a certificate of completion after passing the test?

No. There is no completion certificate after you pass the exam. The exam result for any attempt will be automatically added to the Florida DHSMV system to ensure that it will show up when checked at your driver license or tax collector office appointment.

Does a parent or guardian have to proctor the exam?

Yes. Florida regulations require that anyone taking the exam online have a parent or guardian watching during the test. The parent or guardian is required to provide their driver’s license number during the registration process for the exam which holds them responsible for watching as the exam is being taken to assure that not assistance was provided.

Is there a time limit to take the exam?

Yes. You are given 60 minutes to complete the exam once it is started.  There is also a requirement that you start your exam within 24 hours after you successfully pass the eligibility check in the registration process.

How does the test actually work?

After you have completed the registration process, passed the DHSMV eligibility check, paid your exam fee and had your parent or guardian agree to monitor your exam, you will be give the option to “Begin Test” on our site.  When clicked, you will leave our site and be taken to the designated FL DHSMV testing portal site to start.  First, you select your preferred language again, and then you will be required to answer two identity validation questions about yourself.  Next, you will be given the opportunity to start the exam questions.

The exam will require that you answer one question at a time and you are given a total of 60 minutes to complete.  The test consists of 50 questions. You will keep answering questions until you get 40 correct to pass, 11 wrong to fail, or you run out of time which also results in a failure.

Your result (pass or fail) will be shown on your screen and reported to the FL DHSMV.  We recommend that you print out the results page for your records and bring with you just in case at your driver license office appointment just in case.  The Florida DHSMV allows up to three attempts to pass the exam online.  If you don’t pass on an attempt, you will be given an opportunity to re-register and take a new exam.  If you exhaust your three attempts online, you will be required to take the test in person at a Driver License Office or Tax Collector’s Office.

IMPORTANT: Do not back up or leave the exam browser tab while taking the exam.  Doing so will result in an immediate failure of that exam attempt.

Is my test result reported to the DHSMV?

Yes. There is no completion certificate for the exam. Your exam result is immediately reported to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV).   When you show up at your driver license office or tax collector’s office appointment they will search their computer system to find the exam result.

What if I have a technical problem during the test?

While rare, unfortunately technical problems can happen. If there is a problem with your internet connection or with your computer, contact our office for assistance at 1-800-558-9887.  We are available from 10AM to 6PM EST Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  We will try and recover the exam, if there is any of the 60 minutes left on your exam timer.  If unsuccessful recovering your exam attempt, unfortunately it will be marked as a failure and count against one of your three allowed attempts.
