Protect Your Record

Ticket School’s Florida 4 Hour Course is a convenient, low-cost way to keep points off your official Florida driving record. The course is offered 100% online and is state-approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). Let’s take a closer look at what the Florida 4 Hour Course is, how it keeps points off your record, and why this benefit is so important.

What Is the Florida 4 Hour Course?

The Florida 4 Hour Course, also commonly referred to as the Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) Course is a 4-hour course that may be taken to keep the points associated with a moving violation from being assessed to your record. The course is offered 100% online by Ticket School and features high quality, engaging content like HD videos and animations. Plus there’s no final exam, the course is mobile compatible, and you can even get your certificate of completion express shipped or emailed.

The Florida 4 Hour Course benefits discussed here are for drivers who have elected to take the course. However, drivers who have had two traffic crashes within a two-year period may be ordered to attend a Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC). This is the same course but is taken for a different reason. Failure to complete a TCAC if ordered may result in your Florida driver’s license being cancelled.

The Florida 4 Hour Course Keeps Points Off Your Record

The Florida 4 Hour Course can be voluntarily taken to keep points from being assessed to your record following a ticket for a moving violation. However, there are some restrictions on whether or not this is a viable option for you:

  • Florida drivers may only take the Florida 4 Hour Course once every 12 months
  • Florida drivers may only take the Florida 4 Hour Course a total of 5 times in their lifetime.
  • Florida drivers who hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are not eligible to take the Florida 4 Hour Course

It is also important to note that you must turn your certificate of completion in to the judge or court that issued your ticket by the deadline listed. Failure to turn in the certificate of completion or turning it in after the deadline will not prevent the points from being assessed to your record.

Clean Records Prevent Drivers License Suspensions

A major benefit of keeping your record clean by taking the Florida 4 Hour Course is that clean records will prevent drivers license suspensions. In Florida drivers who accrue more than 12 points on their records within a 12 month period will have their licenses suspended for 30 days. Thus taking the course and avoiding suspension of your license will prevent the costly burdens and inconveniences that come along with a suspended license.

Clean Records Equal Lower Insurance Premiums

The other major benefit of keeping points off your record by taking the Florida 4 Hour Course is that it will keep your auto insurance premiums lower. All else being equal, drivers who have points on their records will have higher auto insurance premiums than drivers who do not. Additionally, if you take the course voluntarily you may qualify for an insurance discount of up to 10%. Be sure to check with your insurance company before taking the course to ensure that you are eligible.
