Do you have a drug or alcohol related offense in the state of Texas? Were you required to take a state-approved alcohol awareness or drug awareness program? If so, you might have been referred to take a Texas Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program (DADAP) to meet that requirement.
DADAP is referenced in 106.115 of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, which covers the specifics of what is an acceptable alcohol awareness program for minors with alcohol offenses. What makes DADAP unique is that it is available in an online format, whereas the traditional alcohol awareness programs are classroom only. It is due to this online format that many courts and judges across the state of Texas allow people of all ages (minor or not) to complete a DADAP course to meet the awareness course requirements.
The DADAP course covers most facets of drug and alcohol awareness. It covers the various types of drugs and alcohol, how those substances impact the body, the dangers of that impact (including if the user were to get behind the wheel). The course also covers the various penalties associated with various offenses and gives the user some helpful information that will hopefully prevent them from getting offenses in the future.
While most people complete the DADAP to satisfy court orders resulting from a ticket of some kind, many others complete it to take advantage of an auto insurance premium discount that is a little known secret. Many but not all auto insurance providers offer the discount, but it is worth finding out. Some employers also require employees to take the DADAP as part of their safety awareness training.
