If you get a ticket for speeding or other traffic violation in Tennessee, the penalties can be quite stiff. Depending on the status of your driving record, the penalties for a ticket can result in a heavy fine, a driver’s license suspension, or a court hearing. You must also respond by the deadline, or you’ll face additional penalties. The violation will appear on your driving record, and points may be added by the Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) as well. However, it is possible to dismiss a ticket by completing a driver education course.

What Is a Driver Education Course?

Ticket School offers an online driver education course approved by the TDOS as a form of ticket dismissal. Also called a Traffic School course, it is held completely online and totals four hours. It’s different from the eight-hour Tennessee defensive driving course. Rather than reducing or avoiding license suspension, the driver education course is for anyone who has committed a traffic violation and who has been referred to a city or county court.

Once you enroll in a state-approved course, you have online access to it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The course content can be accessed via any internet enabled device including a desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. It consists of individual units and quizzes at the end of each unit to test your comprehension of the information.

During the online course, you can expect to view videos, engaging graphics, and interactive animations. It offers a learning opportunity to those who prefer a course that isn’t 100% text-oriented. Yet you can go at your own pace. The minimum is four hours, though you can log in to the online course as many times as you want; it will always go back to where you left off the next time you log in. The only restriction is that you complete it within 180 days of registration.

How Do I Get Started?

When registering for the Tennessee online driver’s education course, follow all the steps on our website. You’ll need to first specify the reason for taking the course; for example, you can indicate it has been court ordered. Enter other information the registration system prompts you to do, and answer the security questions that will appear randomly during the online course. Answering these questions correctly is important, as they are there to verify your identity; you’ll be disqualified if you miss three of them.

How Do I Complete the Online Course

There are only short multiple-choice quizzes throughout and no final exam. To advance to the next unit, you must score at least 70% on the previous one. New questions appear with each attempt. You can go back and review the material before taking each quiz. If you successfully complete the online driver education course, you’ll receive a certificate of completion in PDF format. This is to be turned in at the court that ordered you to take the online course. The certificate must be delivered prior to the due date issued to you by the court.
