Florida DETS Course Requirements
Because this is a Florida-approved DETS course, it follows all standards established by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). Below is what you can expect during the course:
Knowledge Checks & Final Exam
To meet Florida requirements, you must demonstrate understanding of the course material throughout the program. Each unit ends with a short multiple-choice quiz that requires a minimum passing score of 80%. If needed, you may retake unit quizzes as many times as necessary. After completing all units, you’ll take a 40-question final exam. A score of 80% or higher is required to successfully complete the course and earn your completion certificate.
Identity Verification
To confirm that the registered student is actively completing the course, identity verification questions are built into the program. These questions are generated using information entered during registration and appear periodically while progressing through the course. Answering three (3) identity verification questions incorrectly will result in course disqualification in accordance with state requirements.
Instant Certificate Access
Once you successfully finish the course, your completion certificate will be available immediately as a downloadable PDF. You may save or print a copy for your records. We also recommend bringing a printed copy to your driver license appointment when applying for your learner’s permit or driver license.
Electronic Reporting to Florida DHSMV
After completion, your course results are submitted electronically to the Florida DHSMV, allowing licensing staff to verify your DETS completion directly in the system. Even though reporting is completed automatically, bringing a copy of your certificate to your appointment is still recommended.
Florida DHSMV Approved Provider
Our organization is officially licensed by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) as a certified course provider under the corporate name Driver Training Associates, Inc. (DTA). This approval confirms that our program meets all state requirements and that we are authorized to electronically submit your course completion directly to the Florida DHSMV system. This ensures your completion record is properly documented and can be verified when you visit a driver license service center to apply for your learner’s permit.

For drivers under 18, Florida now requires completion of the Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course instead of the 4-hour TLSAE.
A Florida learner’s permit allows new drivers to legally operate a vehicle on public roads with proper supervision and within state-imposed restrictions. For applicants under 18, holding a learner’s permit is a required step before progressing to a driver license. During this time, they must also complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including 10 hours at night, before they can take the driving skills test and earn a full license.
Getting your learner’s permit in Florida if you are under 18 requires the completion of the 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course. In addition to completing the required DETS course, first-time drivers under 18 must also pass the Florida Class E Knowledge Exam to obtain their learner’s permit. We make this process easier by offering both DETS and the Class E test fully online. Our platform is designed to help you meet all the course and exam requirements prior to your appointment to get your permit.
For adults 18 and older, a learner’s permit is optional but still recommended for those who want extra practice and confidence before taking the official road test.
Payment is required during the online registration process. We accept all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
We are committed to the quality of our products and service, which is why we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Please note that completed accounts, as well as accounts disqualified due to identity verification issues or final exam failures, are not eligible for a refund under this policy.
